Welcome to PetsLikeMine: How This Community Works

If you've found your way here, it's probably because your pet has been diagnosed with something. A chronic condition. Something that isn't going away, that needs managing, and that your friends and family don't quite understand.
You're in the right place.
What PetsLikeMine Is
PetsLikeMine is a community for pet owners managing chronic health conditions. Arthritis, diabetes, epilepsy, kidney disease, skin allergies, heart disease, and many more. It's built on a simple idea: the people who best understand what you're going through are the people who've been through it themselves.
This isn't a replacement for veterinary advice. Your vet is and always should be your primary source of medical guidance. But vets have 15-minute appointments and waiting rooms full of other patients. They can tell you what medication to give, but they can't always tell you what it feels like to give your first insulin injection at 6am with shaking hands, or how to stop catastrophising at 2am, or which heated bed actually works for arthritic joints.
That's what this community is for.
How to Get Started
Join Spaces
Spaces are communities organised around specific conditions. If your dog has arthritis, join the Osteoarthritis space. If your cat has kidney disease, join the CKD space. You can join as many as are relevant.
Each space has its own feed of posts, articles, and discussions. You'll see content from your joined spaces on your home feed.
Read the Guides
We publish evidence-based guides written by veterinary professionals. They're designed to be the resource you wish your vet had time to give you — detailed, practical, and honest about what works and what doesn't.
Join the Conversation
Ask questions. Share updates. Post about the good days and the hard ones. Every post you write might be exactly what someone else needed to read today.
Track Your Pet's Health
Use the health tracking features to monitor your pet's condition over time. Pain levels, mobility, appetite, energy — tracking these helps you spot patterns, notice improvements, and have more productive conversations with your vet.
Community Guidelines
This is a supportive space. We ask everyone to:
- Be kind. Everyone here is dealing with something difficult.
- Share your experience, not medical advice. "This is what worked for my dog" is different from "You should do this."
- Respect privacy. Don't share other people's posts or information outside the community.
- Keep it constructive. Disagreement is fine. Rudeness isn't.
A Note From Us
Building PetsLikeMine came from personal experience. When your pet is diagnosed with a chronic condition, the loneliness can be as hard as the condition itself. Your friends love you but they don't get it. The internet is full of terrifying worst-case scenarios. The gap between your vet's office and your living room at midnight feels enormous.
We built this to fill that gap. Welcome. You belong here.
